Dogs on leads are welcome on our campsite

PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEAD AT ALL TIMES IN THE CAMPSITE, AROUND LIVESTOCK AND ON A LEAD ON DARTMOOR, KEEP THEM UNDER CONTROL.

  1. Dogs are not to be left in the control of children or left unattended at any time on a pitch.
  2. Dogs must not be allowed to bark to the annoyance of others.
  3. Dogs are to be kept under close control on a short non-retractable lead; as long leads and cords can be a hazard to others.
  4. Always clear up any dog fouling in a bag, and dispose of it safely.

  • Why are we asking you to do this? We like dogs. We want everyone to enjoy their time at Harford Bunkhouse camping site including people with dogs enjoying their holiday together.

  • Not everyone is a dog person and children in particular can find dogs intimidating.

People may leave tents unzipped, and dogs are curious with a tendency to explore, which others may not appreciate especially when cooking.

  • Dog safety around other dogs, and to reduce the risk of them being hit by a vehicle or causing an accident.

Our camping field is unfenced, so if your dog was to disappear exploring it would get lost.

  • We like our farm animals and birds to be alive and healthy. Being chased by a dog can cause livestock huge amounts of stress and physical injury in the act of trying to escape, both of which can be fatal. Just being chased, for example, can be enough to cause a ewe to miscarry her lamb. Similarly, dog faeces can contain diseases such as neosporosis, which can cause abortions in cattle, and sarcocystosis, which can cause neurological disease and death in sheep.

The nearby town of Ivybridge, only 1.5 miles away, does have a number of places which are great to take dogs off the lead. Speak to us on arrival about best places to go.
